children's museum of la habra; ice cream at ye dang

a good day was had by all today---with harmony and uncle seung in tow. we headed to the children's museum of la habra--there was a playroom for toddlers with lots of toys and books; authentic caboose from the 1940s to explore; a play bus, model railroads on display, a carousel ride, and a mini petting zoo. definitely worth a couple hours to tire out the little ones. as usual, dylan did not get tired...
for lunch, dylan got to eat all kinds of fish and grilled barbecue meats (some of which ended up on the floor) at ye dang restaurant -- probably some of the best korean food i've had eating out--it tasted like real down-home 'seoul' food--very authentic korean ban chan.

what is a refreshing change at a korean place is how they accomomodate children--there is no separate 'kids menu' with crayons and coloring books. no chicken fingers or mac and cheese or deep fried frozen foods. at ye dang, the waitress places two bowls--one with steamed rice and with seaweed soup--in front of dylan, and announces, 'here's food for the baby.' dylan then starts digging into his soup and rice. behind dylan sat a little girl, about the same age, simultaneously eating ice cream and using her spoon to get at pieces of whole grilled fish.

now that's good eating if you ask me.

we also discovered a new food 'trend' in orange county: most if not all korean restaurants along the beach boulevard corridor in fullerton/la mirada (the 'beverly hills' of suburban koreatowns, as my brother seung likes to call it) offer free ice cream for kids.

free ice cream? dylan's all over this one.

at ye dang, you get to scoop your own ice cream from a freezer case, self serve, no questions asked. and to think, we've been in kept in the dark all this time when we could've been partaking of free ice cream in the north o.c.

we'll be back at ye dang---if not for the ice cream, but for the tasty ban chan. and we'll definitely be back at the children's museum for more train exploration with uncle seung.
