interlude: stupid pet tricks

we interrupt this dylan-devoted website to bring you a minute of some clever dog videos. even though dylan may get all the attention, django's pretty neat. please excuse the cheesey windows movie maker novice video editing.

by any other name

here are some of the cutesey bitsy teensey weensey pookey names we've penned for dylan:
'baboy' (baby + boy = weird, i know)
little d
big d
little dude
babycakes
'cakes'
(short for babycakes)
bubba
buh-bah
booboo
mumunah
dill-dill
dilly dill
p diddy dilly

just don't blame us if dylan starts grabbin' his crotch and wears his cap to the side, and asks us for more 'bling'.

photo: little puff daddy dilly wears a hand-me-down shirt from baby keohi and wears handmade pants made by his mom, reused from an old kozyndan shirt. how's that for recycling?

july highlights: nearly walking, standing, and fast crawling

july was a HUGE month for the little guy, punctuated with visits from lots of friends, uncles, aunties, and playtime at the pool, with daddy, standing, and crawling with the cats---and surprise to say that all this in dylan's sixth month! go dylan!!!

uncle gary from sacramento and katherine (dylan's irish clanfolk) came by to tickle dylan's little tumtum.

more swimming and frolicking in the pool with daddy.

hitting the beach! with dark shades, dylan and dad on the lookout for fresh waves, bra.

dylan now can crawl, with tummy off the floor, and can now compete in cat olympics. one minute he's in the kitchen, playing with wooden spoons, the next he's in the bedroom, playing bongos on the furniture. check out his little cowlick!

if you whip out a camera, dylan now darts for the camera in your hand. he is cellphone-camera-remote control-obsessed. listen to dylan making his monkey-primate noises.

bff

guess who've become fast friends? deniro and dylan.

bbq at uncle gary's

gary's not really an uncle, and he didn't really offer dylan a cold beer, but we did have fun at his house saturday. it was a rustic yet urban get together. we got to sit and enjoy the views of laurel canyon, gary grilled dogs and burgers, and gary and john posed for the proverbial 'life is good' photos with their long-time mentor, jerry and his lovely wife janna.

dylan got to hang out with janna.

everyone got a chance to check out dylan in his little sun hat, and got to hold him, while he crawled all about gary's cabin.

partying is sure hard work.... dylan crashes at dusk for a short nap. off to snoozeville.

best baby ever!

so...we've been hanging out with parents, with all the bbqs, pool parties and picnics we've been attending, and invariably, parents will tell other parents what to do or not to do. and of course, if my baby doesn't sleep through the night or isn't eating homecooked baby food, well, i must be a total loser. and that's when you hold your baby a little bit tighter to your bosom, and you whisper in their ear, 'you still love me, right, even if i'm not the best parent ever? yes?' so if you're not giving your baby flat head syndrome or a lifetime of weirdness stemming from your having given him some starbucks green tea latte (oops!) the other day, you're going to do something wrong, or so these parents are trying to say.

so, if you're more britney spears than dr. sears, you should read this blog to better parent your child:

http://bestparentever.com
.

the site discusses parenting methods like breastfeeding, the circumcision/keeping-it-intact decision, elimination communication, babywearing, homeschooling and homemade baby foods. it's the humorous parenting counterpart to the 'stuff white people like' blog.

read it and see what you parents are doing wrong! ha.

Good Quote of the Day!

From Time Magazine, Tuesday, Jul. 08, 2008

Open quoteAll good mothers are addicted to their newborn babies.Close quote

  • P. READ MONTAGUE,neuroscientist, on a new study explaining the neurological roots of maternal bonding that includes mothers getting a high from seeing their baby smile
I'd certainly have to agree with this quote! I can't believe Dylan is six months old already---his feet are much bigger now than in this photo taken more than three months back. Just when I'm tired and I can't look at another messy floor, baby bottle, load of laundry, spittle, I realize that this is right where I want to be, with my little one, to see him smile, squeal, laugh and giggle.

Seen here, Dylan, six months old.

That's all the mushy gushy I'll leave for today. Til next time!
